EoF - Ana's breath of fresh air against the “CO2 of inequalities”

To work for the rights of people with disabilities – I heard this call about 10 years ago. At the age of 28, married and pregnant with my first child, I founded Por Igual Más, an organisation that involves more than 60 young people from different provinces of Argentina.”

A social entrepreneur with a degree in Communication Sciences, Ana Argento Nasser is one of the faces of EoF today, an active and committed protagonist. A few steps back and Ana continues her story: “I founded Por Igual Más in 2014 in Córdoba (Argentina) together with my husband and other friends: to be a sign of God's love, to create concrete opportunities for people with disabilities who have always been marginalised.” They are the most fragile in their hearts and in their heads, and that sense of justice being served to them lies ahead of us as a horizon never reached. The foundation had two main objectives: to redefine the place that society should give to people with disabilities and to increase the empowerment of people with disabilities through a process of raising awareness that helps them achieve their goals by developing skills and competencies. The foundation's programmes range from education to communication, development, accessibility and employment. “The latter is one of our main projects,” continues Ana, “providing training in new technologies (e.g. websites, community management, digital marketing).

More than 3,000 contacts, more than 4,000 institutions involved, training provided for 500 teachers, 1,500 students – these are some of the numbers of the foundation. When she had to choose which EoF thematic village to join, Ana had no doubt: 'CO2 of inequalities'. A title that is also a provocation: by recalling the production of greenhouse gases and the environmental crisis, it invites us to reflect on the waste produced by the socio-economic system that amplifies inequalities (of income, health, opportunities, rights, access to technologies and environmental resources, etc.). To be more concrete, Ana coordinates two projects: a periodical magazine dedicated to human rights and a collection of interviews entitled The Voice of Diversities (La voce delle diversità).At the same time,” says Ana, “I am one of the coordinators of the Latin American EoF network in which we promote, through activities and initiatives, the principles of the Economy of Francesco in the peripheries of our cities. Being part of the EoF movement is a passion, a commitment, a new way of creating global relationships and working for a new economy.”

Young people are acting as watchmen against the globalisation of indifference, from the lookout posts in their communities reminding us of the importance of relationships and the rights of people, especially those of the most fragile and vulnerable.Working for the rights of people with disabilities means first of all learning to recognise and value people's lives by going beyond 'efficiency and productivity' and showing that people with disabilities can make an important and active contribution if the right conditions are created, which they are entitled to. We need to go beyond the concept of 'efficiency' as we have always understood it and finally recognize the value of people for their intrinsic dignity, identify new parameters, recognize other priorities.” This is a paradigm shift that Ana also describes in a recent publication: Model of Communication and Legitimate Acknowledgement of Diversities. “We need to move from the concept of 'inclusion' to that of 'recognition', because,” Ana explains, “every diversity, each person, each one of us is part of the society in which we live – there is no someone inside and someone outside. We are all already inside! We can't put it off any longer, we need a decisive change: the time has come”.
