Sophia University Institute offers the online ECO 107 «Social, Civil, and Communion Enterprises», course to all interested parties as part of Sophia's licensure program in “Unity Culture,” but it can also be taken by guest students who sign up just for it, up to a maximum of 20 participants.
The course is structured over 11 classes of 1h 45' each and will run from April 2 to June 11, 2025. Classes will be held on Wednesdays, 1:30 to 2:15 pm and 2:30 to 3:15 pm Central European Summer Time (UCT+2)
The course offers an introduction to the rich world of private business ventures with purposes other than profit, with a focus on the Economy of Communion. An overview of the topics:
- The various forms of enterprises with ideal aims
- The place of solidarity, inclusion and fraternity in economic life
- The role of intrinsic, other-regarding and relational motivations
- Countering inequality and the various forms of poverty with a culture of encounter
- Sharing profits for the common good
- The economic arena as a place for community-building
- Sustainable value chains
- Financing for social impact
Most lectures will feature dialogue with a qualified guest speaker, scholar or practitioner.
Participants will receive a certificate of attendance and can earn 3 ECTS credits by passing an exam based on a written essay.
The participation fee is € 300 (reductions are available).
