“She gave birth to her firstborn son, wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them ..." (Lk 2-7).
But really, did that child have to come into the world out there, in a stable?
If a young man had passed by at that time, returning from work, perhaps he would have said to them...
To all of you who work for a better world and still believe that the economy can be an experience of communion with poverty, we wish that this Christmas-and then all the days of the new year that is opening-will be an occasion for a profound encounter with those who, near or far, suffer and struggle for peace and justice, and that the commitment to share, to give and receive, until there is communion everywhere, will be strengthened in us.«But how? We cannot leave you here in the cold! Come to me.
No one has to stay outside. I don't have much to offer but I will make room for you.
I would like to make a home for all those whom the world does not welcome.
I would like to gather the tears of all who weep to make the desert bloom-this is my dream, the dream of so many of us, young people.
As long as we gather tears, we believe there will still be hope for our earth.... »
