Fifth video interview of the series «Flashes of Life & Roots»: the protagonist is the Spanish entrepreneur "pioneer" of the Economy of Communion Paco Toro
The interviews born from the Flashes of Life & Roots project are back: we decided to interview a series of entrepreneurs "pioneers of EoC" to collect the "precious pearls" contained in the experiences of those people who, in different parts of the world and in different cultural contexts, have responded radically to a common vocation: that of giving life - with their own lives - to the Economy of Communion.
The stories of the pioneers are fruits of the same tree, nourished by the same roots... Knowing their stories allows us to savor how different the expressions of the same life can be, with different forms but a common aroma. The aim of this series of interviews is therefore to nourish and encourage those who, in the present and in the future, feel called to put the Economy of Communion into practice with their lives. That is, fruits that become seeds to generate new life in its multiple expressions.
The fifth protagonist of our series of interviews is Paco Toro, a Spanish entrepreneur and pioneer of the Economy of Communion, Flyer Pioneros 2 IG trans 03, who, like his predecessors, shared his professional and personal history with us. After living in several Spanish cities, including Cadiz, Seville and Granada, in 1972 Paco settled in Jaén, in southern Spain with his wife Lola and their two daughters. Since then, the family has grown to include seven children. His company, which he started with little means, has become an example of success and harmony, employing agricultural engineers, biologists and office and transport staff. Reflecting on the growth of his business, Paco says:
I am very happy with the atmosphere of harmony that reigns in my company
But let's go back to the beginning of Paco's entrepreneurial career, which began in an unusual way. In 1969, his father, a farmer, rented him the family farm so he could care for his sick mother. This event marked the beginning of his journey in the world of agriculture, where he implemented modern techniques that significantly improved production. In 1972, Paco moved to Jaén to distribute plant protection products, despite not knowing the city and having no experience in sales. Paco recalls that despite not knowing Jaén, nor the people of that city and having no money, with determination and faith, he managed to overcome the initial difficulties and grow his business. The encounter with the Economy of Communion, launched by Chiara Lubich, was a crucial moment in Paco's life. His Christian vision and the desire to do good that were very strong in him, are realized in a business model that emphasizes the dignity of work and mutual help. Reflecting on the first miracle of Jesus at the wedding in Cana, Paco observes:
The conclusion I have drawn is that God personally takes care of our physical needs
His experience with the Economy of Communion goes precisely in that direction. At a certain point in his life Paco feels the need to do something directly for the people in poverty in a South American country and does not want to do it in a "welfare" way. He decides to leave for Bolivia and contribute directly to the creation of companies and the training of local entrepreneurs, demonstrating the importance of a fraternal and sustainable approach. The person who works improves his self-esteem and can escape from poverty, Paco emphasizes, highlighting the value of work.
Today, Paco Toro looks with satisfaction at the fruits of his work. At 78, he has handed over some of the management of the company to his son, but he continues to feel deeply connected to its mission. Reflecting on his journey, he concludes:
Now I am about to turn 78 and I own a company, which is no longer mine.
Paco's story is an example of how passion, faith and commitment can transform challenges into opportunities, creating a positive impact on the community and beyond. Listen to the interview and join us in being part of this movement!
