Tagaytay, Philippines: The 4th and the 5th day of the EoC PanAsian Congress 2016

The fourth day of the Congress was focused on: "Economy of Communion (EOC), An Economy for All"

May 28, 2016 - The fourth day of the EOC PanAsian congress started with the talk of Dr.160523 24 Manila Youth Forum 19 ridLuigino Bruni on the theme of the congress: Economy of Communion (EOC), An Economy for All. In his talk he explained that for any charism to flourish and not to decline,  there is a need to be faithful to the original charismatic questions for the historical answers change in time.  In the case of EOC, he mentioned some of the original questions: Can companies be places and tools of communion? Can market be a place of fraternity? Can we imagine and create an economy and a society without anyone in need? He challenged  each country and each person to find the right answers in their given cultural context and times. He also expounded on EOC as a vocation.

The 3rd day of the EoC PanAsian Congress was focused on "Principles and Business Practices of Eoc Firms"

160525 29 Tagaytay Panasian Congress 21 ridTagaytay, May 27, 2016 - Today in the EoC PanAsian Congress, we have a well-known Senator in the Philippines in the person of Bam Aquino who emphasized that inclusive growth is a moral imperative.  He is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Trade, Commerce, and Enterpreneurship and the Committee on the Youth. His talk dealt with the Government as an enabler of social businesses.  As a senator, he has put in place more policies so that the wealth of the nation would be distributed in many parts of the country.

Philippines: Economy of Communion, an Economy for All

During the 25th International Congress of the Economy of Communion being held from May 25 to 29, a worldwide linkup will celebrate the event.

160523 24 Manila Youth Forum 16 It was precisely in 29 May 1991 that Chiara Lubich, during her visit to São Paolo, Brazil, launched the Economy of Communion project (EoC). Noting the social inequalities in the country, she gave birth to this initiative that soon involved business men and women, workers, students, academics and researchers, the rich and the poor.

According to Luigino Bruni, the current international coordinator of the project, the poor are still the focus of the EoC: “It’s impossible to forget the many times that Chiara Lubich, when we worked together for this, emphasised: “Remember that I created the Economy of Communion for the poor.

Tagaytay City, Philippines—Economy of Communion’s Pan-Asian Congress 2016 Anette Pelksman Balaoingwelcomed even more participants on its second day themed Globalization’s Benefits and Challenges for Asia. After an incisive recap of the previous day’s thoughts and learnings, Dr. Anette Pelksman-Balaoing of Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands talked about “Globalized Asia: New Opportunities for Solidarity,” stressing mainly that solidarity is key to unlocking the potentials of Asian societies and how rediscovering their ideals and rich heritage can change the face of globalization towards more life-valuing economics.

160525 29 Tagaytay Panasian Congress 06 ridMay 25- The PanAsian Congress 2016 with its theme Economy of Communion, An Economy For All, just started in Mariapolis Peace, in Tagaytay City before the scenic Taal lake and volcano. It was also fitting that in this week the National Weather Bureau just announced that it will be the start of the rainy season ending a long dry spell that made many farmers suffer in the Philippines. The Philippines is also entering a new phase as it just elected its new government leaders.

Manila, Philippines: 2nd day of the EoC Youth Forum

The second day of the International Youth Forum on the Economy of Communion in the University of Sto. Tomas, Manila, Philippines. A  memorandum of understanding between EoC and UST was signed.

160523 24 Manila Youth Forum 12 ridAfter a recap of the events of the previous day, Prof. Luca Crivelli, Ph.D. of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland delivered a talk on EOC and other Forms of Social Businesses wherein he emphasized the ultimate goal of EoC is promoting communion within the economy.

UST Business students presented their social enterprises such as Fruitway which sources fruits and vegetables for retailing from poor farmers who are often taken advantage of by abusive and corrupt middle-men;

The two-day International Youth Forum on the Economy of Communion (EoC) kicked off today, May 23, 2016 at the Thomas Aquinas Research Complex Auditorium

160523 24 Manila Youth Forum 07 ridAre around 200 the participants to the Youth Forum, from different countries such as: Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Indonesia, Ireland, Peru, Republic of Central Africa, Spain, Switzerland, plus Economics and Commerce students in the University.

Dean of the College of Economics, Assistant Professor Mary Hildence M. Baluyot gave the opening remarks, quoting the letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians that says nothing is greater than love, especially in our consumerist world where more and more people are driven to the margins, excluding them.

This morning, at the University of Santo Tomas (UST), the EoC Youth Forum was opened in Manila. Follow streaming. The title of the event is:

Economy of Communion: An Economy for ALL

160523 24 Manila Youth Forum 03 ridToday and tomorrow the EoC Youth Forum currently in course at the University of Santo Tomas gathers more than 200 researchers, professors and students from various universities in Manila, all of whom are interested in deepening their understanding of the alternative economic paradigm of the Economy of Communion.

On behalf of the EoC's International Commission there will be Luigino Bruni, Anouk Grevin, Lorna Gold and Luca Crivelli contributing to the event.  A special space will be dedicated to a dialogue between them and the academics of Santo Tomas (and those who want to join them) inside the programme.
